This was arguably Alexander McQueen’s best ever runway show. More than 1,000 guests sat spellbound as one of the most beautiful, breathtaking fashion events was unveiled in front of their eyes.

McQueen’s has arguably been one of the most desirable show passes every season since he started out 14 years ago and, if that’s the case, the autumn/winter 2008-9 one will be the golden ticket.

McQueen has explained the premise of this season’s fashion show, describing his idea behind the theme:

“I’ve got a 600-year-old elm tree in my garden and I made up this story of a girl who lives in it and comes out of the darkness to meet a prince and become a queen”.

This was truly an unmissable event, and as you can see by these gorgeous pictures, McQueen’s designs are unlike any out there. More romantic and feminine than ever, McQueen certainly reminded us why his name is so renowned in the fashion world today.

The Dark Knight

There was certainly some light at The Dark Knight premiere in New York last week.

Although the entire cast basically stuck to basic black formal wear, it suited the event - the premiere of the highly anticipated movie The Dark Knight. However, there were a few shots of color here and there, perfectly placed and from Morgan and Maggie to Gary and Christian…they all looked like true A-listers.

This movie has been receiving a huge amount of buzz, largely due to the astounding performance of the incredibly talented Heath Ledger who unfortunately passed away back in February.

Much of the buzz surrounding this movie related to Ledger and his Oscar-worthy performance in the flick, but the other actors involved are certainly none to overlook, in terms of both performance and style.

Maggie Gyllenhaal looked ravishing at the premiere, in a long black strapless dress with a floral design spread across the side.

She wore a heavy gold corsage-like cuff bracelet and pendant drop earrings, both which were reportedly by designer Fred Leighton, a favorite of Sarah Jessica Parker, Angelina Jolie, and other celebrities.

She kept it very simple and yet looked absolutely stunning, and all eyes were on her.

The tremendous Gary Oldman looked great next to her, in a handsome suit, purple shirt and tie. I love the subtleness of color here, and the entire cast looked nothing less than spectacular when they lined up together to pose for pictures.

Lauren Conrad Goes to the Dogs

Jul 16, 2008 Author: Michelle | Filed under: Accessories, Celebrities, Colors, Girls, Head to Toe, Magazines, News, Styles

Lauren Conrad has been making the news quite often lately, unfortunately much of it has not really been to her benefit.

One of the latest events LC was spotted at was Animal Fair magazine’s 9th annual “Paws for Style” fashion show on Tuesday in New York City.

There was an outrage over the fact that Lauren left early before walking with a dog down the red carpet as was planned.

After being paid reportedly $20,000 to make an appearance and walk the runway it is no wonder there was such an uproar, however it is now believed that it was nothing more than a mistake and that LC simply was not aware that she was supposed to walk the runway with the borrowed pooch and left before the event ended.

What can you expect but for Hills-like drama to carry over and follow LC everywhere she goes…luckily for us she did stay at the event long enough to pose for a few pictures on the red carpet.

Regardless of the drama that may have ensued, one thing we can say is that Lauren looked great.

Dressed very simply in a belted red dress from her own clothing line, she was very pretty and I mean really, how dressed up can you get for a designer doggy couture event?

We often see an outfit recurrence on the red carpet, and this was no different.

This time it was Khloe Kardashian and Lauren Conrad who sported the same sexy Dolce & Gabbana bustier dress, Khloe at her birthday party in Las Vegas and Lauren at the premiere of The Dark Knight in New York City.

Kardashian Conrad

Right off the bat I have to give it to Lauren, not that the Kardashian sister’s body isn’t great, but with this bustier style dress I think it better suits a smaller bust as on Lauren.

Miss Conrad also opted for better accessories, choosing a simple pair of black peep-toe Louboutins and stacked bracelets while Khloe went with gladiator-style chunky heels and large hoop earrings.

I definitely think our girl from The Hills takes the cake on this one even though it was Khloe’s birthday, what do you think?

Get Your Glow on With Cream Blush

When used correctly, cream blush can leave you with a natural, fresh, dewy look that is better than what any powder blush can do.

Cream blush blends more easily and evenly into the skin and is simple to apply. It can take a bit of practice before you get the hang of it however, simply because you are probably so used to applying the basic powder blush and it will take a bit of time to get used to the change.

If you are interested in trying out cream blush cosmetics for yourself, here are a few of your best options.

NARS Creme Blush

NARS Creme Blush

This is definitely one of the top choices for cream blush.

This cream-to-powder cheek color glazes over cheeks with a sheer, glowing finish that is never greasy. Simply apply over freshly moisturized skin or foundation for gorgeous color that will last you the entire day.

Available through the infamous Sephora beauty company, you can find the blush in Cactus Flower, Constantinople, Gold Member, Gueule de Nuit, Lokoum, Montenegro, Penny Lane, and Turkish Red.

Revlon Cream Blush

Another top choice, this cream blush by Revlon is available in six different colors: Not So Nude, Just Peachy, Rosy Glow, Blushing Mauve, First Blush, and Berry Flirtatious.

This weightless, creamy formula blends easily into skin, adding a sheer wash of color to your cheeks.

You will never look as fresh and flushed as you will with this magic formula, and after one try you are going to toss that old powder blush right out of your makeup bag.

Bobbi Brown Cream Blush Stick

If you want a cream blush in the easiest, most convenient form possible, you will want to try the Cream Blush Stick by Bobbi Brown.

With it you can create a healthy, natural looking flush on any skin tone. The sheer, lightweight formula really packs in flattering light-diffusers that help to soften the look of fine lines, so you look healthier and younger.

With the Bobbi Brown Cream Blush Stick you can create a look that is fresh and dewy and able to withstand the day without you needing to worry about reapplying.

This cream blush stick is affordable and available in six stunning shades: Clay, Coral, Desert Rose, Dusty Mauve, Pale Pink and Red Berry.

As long as you choose the right color, any of these cream blushes would be worth checking out. You will be amazed at the difference when compared to your standard powder blush, and it is a change you are definitely going to love.

High Time for High Waisted Shorts

Jul 14, 2008 Author: Michelle | Filed under: Colors, Girls, Magazines, News, Reviews, Shorts, Styles, Who Wears What

One of the hottest trends this summer is the high waist. High waisted shorts in particular are quickly making a comeback, but if you are considering trying this look out for yourself you need to make sure that you go about it in just the right way.

High waisted shorts can quite easily go the entire other way and end up looking dorky and awkward as opposed to funky and fashionable.

The trick here is to make sure that you are showing off your legs, making them look as long and lovely as possible.

More than anything this refers to footwear. With high waisted shorts you need to be really careful with what you are dressing your feet in, as although anything from Ugg boots to stiletto high heels will work, it is all about the details.

Also make sure that your shirt is tucked in a little loosely, because too tight will leave you looking uncomfortable and really put a damper on the hot style you are trying to pull off.

High Waisted Shorts

If you want to try and get your own pair, check out American Apparel or Just Jeans for a good selection.

I think on the right body they can work, what do you think?

Sexy New Star: Katy Perry

Katy Perry
I simply can’t say enough about Katy Perry. Ever since she hit the music scene which to most of us was just recently, I have not been able to take my eyes off her and have been wowed by her incredibly smart fashion sense.

Not only has her I Kissed a Girl song been tearing up the charts and having us all singing in the shower, but her look is unique and edgy, different from the typical blonde pop tarts we see today.

One of the first television shows I saw featuring the lovely Miss Katy Perry was So You Think You Can Dance, where she looked positively adorable and super stylish in a sky-high yellow mini dress and feather flower in her hair.

Throw in a cute green belt and platform mary janes so tall they could almost be classified as stilts, and you have the perfect combination of cute and classy.

From her powerhouse vocals to her stunning bod and terrific taste in fashion, Katy Perry is definitely making her mark and is one woman to watch out for, and I for one am definitely feeling her.

If you really want to be in style this summer, one of the biggest fashion statements you can make is by adding some vivid colors to your wardrobe.

Don’t be afraid of wearing shocking hues - as long as you use them in the right ensembles and wear them the right way, it will be fabulous.

One of the best guidelines you can stick to when it comes to donning bright colors is to wear them with dark denim.

If you want to wear a vibrant neon yellow or green shirt for instance, wear them with wide leg dark denim jeans or a cute dark denim skirt, to add balance to the ensemble.

Zac Posen One of the easiest ways to model your favorite bright colored fashions this season is to wear them in a dress.

You can do almost no wrong when wearing vibrant hues in a dress, just make sure that if there is a pattern it is appropriately proportioned to your body.

Also keep in mind that bright colors do not always have to be fluorescents and neons.

Take the beautiful jewel-toned apparel out there, such as this stunning dress by Zac Posen.

Calvin Klein

If you are interested in going with the trend of brightness but want to keep it subtle and classic, try this full-length dress from Calvin Klein.

Pair it with a chic pair of pumps and you will not only fit right in with the trend of saturated hues that is taking over the world today, but will look great doing it.

Layering is another fantastic trick to wearing brights, the best idea being to combine them with true classic neutral pieces.

It’s really all about contrast, so don’t worry too much about being all matchy-matchy, and look for colors that play off each other and draw the attention to you.

The great thing about bright colors is that they help you to stand out from the crowd, and you can dress them up or play them down, depending on the type of look that you are going for.

Regardless of what road you decide to take with your hot hues, remember to not be daunted by brighter pieces. Have fun with your clothing, play around with it, and find out what works for you.

Couture fashion is in its own world, where some of the most elaborate, exquisite, fabulous styles are created.

For the Fall season we have seen the runways packed full of super special ensembles, from renowned designers such as Christian Lacroix, Elie Saab, Chanel, and of course the designer synonymous with the word couture - Jean Paul Gaultier.

Christian Lacroix

Christian Lacroix

There are some terrific names that strutted their stuff on the Fall 08 runway, but let’s start off this look at the hot new couture fashions with one of the top designers, Christian Lacroix.

Lacroix is an expected part of any couture runway and looked forward to by all. For the upcoming season Lacroix brought us bright colors, blacks, and everything in between.

Sent out for Fall were corseted, bejeweled jackets, leg-of-mutton sleeves, frothing tulle skirts, lace-veiled eyes, and jet-encrusted mohawks.

As always, Lacroix’s runway definitely brought a lot of excitement and enthusiasm, and everything about it was utterly unlikely and delightful.

Elie Saab

Elie Saab

Another designer infamous in the fabulous world of couture is Elie Saab. Known for more feminine fashions, the runways of Saab are always entertaining and full of interest.

Elie Saab is definitely one of the go-to designers when it comes to haute couture, and the runway for Fall was full of off-the-shoulder swags, bunchy jutting bustiers, and fabric rosettes.

The look here was lovely and very ladylike, which definitely stood out in comparison to some of the much funkier looks on the runway.

Hair was swept in a romantic style while the eyes smoldered with a combination dark smokey eye and cat’s eye, and together this created a terrific balance.

Jean Paul Gaultier

Jean Paul Gaultier

Who could write a couture review without mentioning the effervescent Jean Paul Gaultier?

This time Gaultier presented excited onlookers with a leather framework of saddle epaulets and harnesses strapped over a fur coat that set things off, continuing on with the flamboyant equestrian look.

There were many other fantastic looks to check out as well however, and Gaultier, who is renowned for his interpretion of the trench and tux suit, brought us some delightful versions of these styles as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Fall 2008 couture fashion shows, the designs living up to everything I thought they would be, what about you?
